According to an Article by Casey Junkins in the Wheeling Intelligencer, West Virginia environmental regulators cited MarkWest Energy for “conditions not allowable in the waters of the state” .
One of MarkWest’s pipelines in Wetzel Countywas damaged during a landslide and propane, ethane, butane, pentanes and other chemicals were leaked into Rocky Run stream. State Department of Environmental Protection officials were unable to determine the number of fish that were killed because vapors were present where the chemicals came into contact with the water. Anyone who notices a spill related to the natural gas industry in West Virginia should call 800-642-3074.
